Roberts: Trophy win may add edge

Gary Roberts feels Chesterfield's Johnstone's Paint Trophy win over Rochdale could give his side the edge in their league meeting on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old produced a superb performance in November as Chesterfield stormed to a 3-0 victory in an entertaining and open encounter at the Proact Stadium, setting up all three goals as Ollie Banks scored either side of Armand Gnanduillet's strike. Asked if the Spireites hold a psychological advantage ahead of Dale's return to Derbyshire on Tuesday night, Roberts told Press Association Sport: "I think it could. We've played them twice this season and they haven't beaten us. And I thought we should have won at their place, to be honest. "But they are one of the best teams in the league and they will come here and play. I don't think they'll change from how they played here in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy as their manager is a proud man and that's how he wants his team to play football. "They will be up there at the end of the season, no doubt, because they are a quality team." Victory for Chesterfield would see them replace Rochdale in second place in the League Two table and move to within a point of leaders Scunthorpe.
