Chesterfield chief executive Chris Turner expressed mixed emotions following the departure of Liam Cooper to Leeds.
Cooper, 22, completed his transfer to the Championship club on Wednesday in a deal thought to be worth in the region of £750,000 with clauses and add-ons. While Turner is sad to see the Spireites lose the highly-rated central defender, he believes it proves that last season's League Two champions are a club who are at least doing something right. "We're disappointed to lose a player of his calibre but we feel the fee is fair for a player in the last year of his contract, and it is a great opportunity for him," said Turner. "While we're sad to lose Liam, it does show we're developing players and winning games at the same time."
