Rotherham United striker Deon Burton has handed in a transfer request to the club.Rotherham United striker Deon Burton has handed in a written transfer request to the League One club.
The 28-year-old made the request to the Millmoor outfit on Wednesday evening, with The Millers to consider the situation before making a decision.
The former Portsmouth and Derby County hit-man seems keen to find pastures new in the January transfer window, having only joined the South Yorkshire side on a free transfer from Brentford back in the summer.
Championship strugglers Sheffield Wednesday have already been mentioned in connection with a move for the Jamaican international and Rotherham chairman Peter Ruchniewicz admitted his disappointment with Burton's decision.
"The timing of this request is disappointing, especially following our win at Bradford," Ruchniewicz told the club's official website.
"Deon has been considering his future career and has decided that might be best served away from Rotherham.
"This is especially surprising after how well he settled in at the club and quickly became our leading goalscorer."
The news comes as The Millers were dealt a further blow by the news that defender Scott Minto is sidelined with an ankle injury.
The former Charlton Athletic, Chelsea, Benfica and West Ham United player underwent an operation this week to clear up his right ankle.
"Scott has been troubled with his Achilles for some time now and the operation saw his ankle cleared out," said Millers physio Denis Circuit.
"It was discovered that there were some pieces of bone causing problems and hopefully, that has now been cleared up."
