Full-back's injury not serious while young striker flies in for trial

West Brom boss Roberto Di Matteo has received a boost with the news that Joe Mattock's foot injury is not serious. The defender, 19, was stretchered off in the first half of the Baggies' 4-1 win over Bristol City on Saturday after a challenge with Nicky Maynard. Initial fears of a fracture to his right foot have since been quashed after a scan revealed heavy bruising as the extent of the damage. Mattock, who has been a regular at left-back this season, could be in contention for the trip to Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend with medical staff monitoring his progress. Meanwhile, Vancouver Whitecaps striker Marcus Haber embarked on a four-day trial period on Tuesday with a view to a permanent move. The 20-year-old made an impression in his homeland last season, being named ULS First Division Rookie of the Year after grabbing eight goals and four assists. The Canadian has also spent time with Dutch outfit Groningen but could seal a move to the English game should he impress Di Matteo in his training spell.
