Rotherham have landed midfielder Ben Pringle on a free transfer from Derby to make him the club's first summer signing.
The former non-league star made 15 Championship appearances last season, but only three starts, and has agreed a two-year deal at the Don Valley Stadium. "I spent two years at Derby and played a few games but I needed to play more," the 22-year-old told Rotherham's official website. "The gaffer (Andy Scott) sold this club to me. I want to play as many games as I can and that is the main reason that I have signed. It is an up-and-coming club with a new stadium on the way. "The manager told me he wanted me to play so it is always nice to go somewhere where you are wanted so that was the main factor for my decision. "I still had a year left at Derby so I could have stayed there but I spent two seasons trying to break into the side but for whatever reason it hasn't worked out so to come here and play is something I am really looking forward to." Derby manager Nigel Clough said: "Ben is a great young lad and we all wish him well in the future. "His chances here have been limited and it's important for him to go to a club where he will have a chance to play first-team football on a regular basis." Pringle, signed by Derby from Ilkeston for an undisclosed fee in June 2009, spent the last two months on loan at Torquay.
