Stewart: Hard work paid off

Rotherham chairman Tony Stewart was always confident he would lead the club out of League Two, despite a bumpy five years at the helm.

Stewart took over the Millers in 2008 when they were in dire straits and saved them from extinction, but in doing so made the bold decision to leave Millmoor for Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium. Four painful years at Don Valley, the first of which saw his club starting the season on -17 points, three departed managers and a play-off final defeat at Wembley followed, but that was all put right on Saturday when Steve Evans led them to a 2-0 win over Aldershot which sealed promotion back to League One after six years away. And despite the turbulent nature of his tenure, Stewart knew things would come good. "I always confident. It was a case of time really and just when it would happen," he said. "Recalling the times at Don Valley and losing in the play-offs, that was disappointing. "But eventually we have got a new stadium, a manager bringing in 30 players and getting them to consolidate. It all came right at the end. "I am a person that is impatient so I would have liked it to happen sooner, but I have been in charge of the club for five seasons and I have to say, not only have we got a promotion with a new stadium, we have got a fanbase that a lot of teams would love to have, so I am happy."
