Greg Halford claims to have snubbed interest from League One and other Sky Bet Championship clubs in order to link up with Brighton & Hove Albion.

The versatile 29-year-old has moved to the Amex Stadium on an initial month-long deal from Nottingham Forest.

He made his debut in Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Wigan Athletic and is convinced that he made the right choice in ignoring offers from elsewhere.

Halford told The Argus: “I had a couple of Championship teams and a couple in League One interested but I jumped at the chance to come here.

“I probably couldn’t have picked a place further away from the Midlands but I’m really excited about getting stuck in and getting to know the lads.

“They try to play the right way here but the right way isn’t always winning football.

“We haven’t had the results we have been looking for in recent weeks.

“Sometimes grinding it out for 35 or 40 minutes is what you need to do to get that winning feeling back.”

Halford is also looking forward to working with Brighton boss Sami Hyypia and says he will be leaving the door open for an extended stay if all parties are in agreement.

He added: “I’ll be learning off the manager and I’ll try to get as many minutes as I can.

“I think they wanted me to benefit them in being able to play a number of positions.

“I add a bit of height to the team which I think is needed as well.

“But it will benefit me because I need the minutes.

“I’m coming in for 28 days and I’ll have an open mind after that.

“If a team gets a couple of injuries such as Forest, I may go back there if needed.”
