Barnet have taken the option to extend striker John Akinde's contract with the club, ending speculation he was set for move away from The Hive.

Sky Bet Championship side Wolves were reportedly interested in signing the 26-year-old, who has scored 11 goals in all competitions for the Bees this season, after Benik Afobe was sold to Bournemouth.

Barnet manager Martin Allen confirmed the news via a letter on the club's website.

It read: "This morning I've had a chat with John Akinde and I've informed him that the club are taking up the option on his contract.

"We are happy and he's delighted."

Akinde is expected to be part of the Barnet squad travelling to Stevenage on Saturday after being left out of the goalless draw with Carlisle last weekend due to a tight hamstring.
