Paul Hurst has left Grimsby to become the new manager of Shrewsbury after the two clubs agreed a compensation package.

Shrewsbury, who have been without a manager since Micky Mellon left on October 7 to take over at National League side Tranmere, approached Grimsby over the weekend for permission to speak to Hurst and the Mariners confirmed his departure on Monday morning.

Chris Doig has also left Grimsby and will be Hurst's assistant at New Meadow with the club bottom of the League One table and six points from safety.

Meanwhile, Dave Moore has been installed as caretaker manager at Grimsby while the club looks for Hurst's successor.
