Swansea travelled to West London with a two-point advantage, but were facing an uphill battle after Alan Tate was sent off on 24 minutes.
Kevin O'Connor put Brentford ahead just two minutes later and Eddie Hutchinson scored a second goal for the hosts on 35 minutes.

Goals from Paul Hall (4) and Shane Nicholson (58, pen) put The Spireites on the front foot, but Ian Baraclough (65) and Tommy Johnson in the last minute saved Scunthorpe.
Southend United against Milton Keynes Dons, and Walsall versus Tranmere Rovers both finished scoreless.
