Alan Buckley has praised the immediate impact made by Grimsby Town's loan signings Rob Atkinson and Sam Hird.
Atkinson joined from Barnsley before last week's loan deadline, while Hird was brought in from Doncaster Rovers.
Both players started Saturday's 3-0 win at Barnet and have drawn the plaudits of Grimsby boss Buckley.
"I thought the two new lads did fantastically well for us - it's the first time they've met some of our players other than training on Thursday and Friday," said Buckley.
"I didn't bring them in as cover because they both played. My intention was to play them.
"They certainly had to come along to help our numbers, but I know they are better than just numbers - they have better ability than that."
