Former Leeds man pens two-year contract

Grimsby Town have continued their summer rebuilding plans with the addition of Peter Sweeney. Sweeney finished last season on loan with The Mariners after falling out-of-favour at Leeds United. Within days of Leeds releasing the winger he has now been signed by Grimsby on a two-year contract. Sweeney made eight League Two starts for Grimsby during his loan spell at Blundell Park last season.

Newell influence

Meanwhile, new signing Paul Linwood says working for manager Mike Newell was a factor in joining Grimsby. "I am absolutely made up to be signing for Grimsby," he told the Grimsby Telegraph. "I spoke to a few clubs over the summer and this is the one that jumped off the page for me. "I know the gaffer from my Tranmere days and he's someone I am keen to start working with. He has a good reputation."
