Accrington winger Chris Turner has moved a step closer to a return to full fitness.

Wide-man expects to be back in full training by end of the week

Accrington winger Chris Turner has moved a step closer to a return to full fitness following ankle ligament damage. The 19-year-old former Burnley youngster, who was the talk of much transfer speculation in the summer, has been sidelined since the Reds' 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth in the middle of October. Scans revealed he had torn ligaments in his left ankle but following a speedy recovery, Turner is now eyeing a Boxing Day return at local rivals Morecambe. He said: "I am looking to be back in full training by the end of next week. I started light training on Monday, working on the cross trainer and working with weights, and it feels okay. "The gaffer (John Coleman) has been really supportive, he has told me to keep my head up, concentrate on getting back to full fitness and to continue where I left off back in October. I had just scored by first professional goal and I was really enjoying my game so it was such a big blow when I got the injury." He added: "I am hoping to be in the squad for our game against Morecambe on Boxing Day - it would be a great belated Christmas present if I was."
