Macclesfield Town defender Hamza Bencherif is keen to return to action before the end of the season after being sidelined by a horror ankle injury.
The young centre-half had been in top form before suffering the injury in early December, with Algeria scouts monitoring his progress with the World Cup in mind.
Those dreams were dashed when a challenge at Rochdale left his ankle shattered, but the 22-year-old is keen to be back on the pitch before the season finishes in May.
He told skysports.com: "I haven't got an exact timescale as of yet, but if everything goes well then I might get to play in a couple of the games towards the end of the season.
"However, that is unlikely and I may have to wait until pre-season before getting back into the swing of things.
"I'm still young and hopefully I've got a lot more football to play, so I don't want to rush things and end up damaging it permanently."
Bencherif insists he will be patient and wait for a full recovery before contemplating a recall to the side, rather than rushing back into action.
He added: "It is really hard because every day I see football on TV and it makes me want to get back on the pitch with my team-mates, but I have got to make sure that health comes before football.
"They both go hand in hand, but health has got to be priority because without it the other can't happen, so it is important to take time and make sure it heals properly so that I don't damage my future career as well."
