Adrian Forbes has issued a rallying call to his Grimsby Town team-mates not to give up until their fate is mathematically confirmed.
The Mariners' Football League status is hanging by a thread after suffering a 3-0 defeat by Torquay United on Saturday, which leaves the team seven points adrift of safety with three games to play.
However, despite former Millwall man Forbes acknowledging the tall order they face to beat the drop this season, he is adamant Grimsby will keep battling to the finish.
"It is mathematically possible, but it will be a tall order considering the situation," Forbes told
skysports.com.
"We need Barnet not to win, whilst we win all three of our remaining games.
"I know that on our day we can do that, but we need a Grimsby side to turn up like the one against Shrewsbury and Bournemouth.
"We haven't made it easy for ourselves with the result at the weekend."
The 31-year-old has been sidelined since November after breaking his leg, but made his return to action earlier this month and he revealed how the club's struggles made his period of absence even tougher to take.
Massive issue
He added: "It has been a massive issue for me because obviously I have wanted to get out there and help the lads.
"You always hope that you could make a difference, which is never a certainty, but you want to at least give the gaffer the option to call on you when required.
"A broken leg is an injury which can't be helped compared to an injury such as a hamstring.
"That can be prevented sometimes by warming up properly, but when someone kicks you and breaks your leg then it can't be helped.
"I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that I can come in and help the lads progress up the table and help the club out of the predicament that we are in."
