Torquay United have announced that Tyrone Thompson will not be offered a new contract this summer.

No new deal for Gulls midfielder

Torquay United have announced that Tyrone Thompson will not be offered a new contract this summer. The 27-year-old midfielder has been with the Gulls since 2008, helping them secure promotion into the Football League. However, he has now been deemed surplus to requirements, with chief executive Colin Lee the man to break the bad news. Having taken the decision to release Thompson, Torquay are now keen to give him the best possible chance of finding a new club. With that in mind, it has been agreed that the former Sheffield United trainee will not play or train for the remainder of the season in order to protect his fitness. That means Thompson will not be part of Paul Buckle's squad travelling to Bury for their penultimate game of the season on Saturday. "The club would like to thank Tyrone for all his efforts over the last two seasons and wish him well for the future," read a statement on the club's official website.
