Gulls boosted as Benyon stays

Torquay have kept hold of Elliot Benyon until January at the earliest after a loan deal failed to materialise on Thursday.

The highly-rated forward, who has bagged 10 goals for the Gulls so far this season, attracted a host of attention from rivals clubs ahead of Thursday's 5pm emergency loan deadline but nothing has been agreed and Benyon will continue to ply his trade at Plainmoor for the time being at least. But it was not for the want of trying from those interested in securing his services. Manager Paul Buckle, delighted to have fended off bids, told United's official website: "We received another offer on Wednesday night for Elliot but these things often end up as a bit of cat and mouse. "Some of the clubs that are coming in for Elliot expect to come in on deadline day or the night before and expect everything to start moving quickly, well it doesn't work like that." Elsewhere, on-loan Wolves forward Ashley Hemmings has extended his loan period at Plainmoor until the end of the season, while defender Kieran Charnock's loan switch to Morecambe includes a view to a permanent move in January.
