Shrimps avoid Fleming fee

Morecambe will not have to pay a compensation fee to Wrexham for the signing of Andy Fleming.

The midfielder moved to the Globe Arena from the north Wales club last summer and featured more than 30 times for the Shrimps last season, scoring four goals. The case was referred to a tribunal after Morecambe insisted no compensation was due because Wrexham offered the 23-year-old a contract which was less favourable than his previous deal. Morecambe made an offer to Wrexham in order to avoid the matter going to a tribunal but this was rejected, and the tribunal ruled in the Shrimps' favour and confirmed no compensation is due. A statement on Morecambe's official website said: "Morecambe FC are pleased that this matter is finally closed."
