Swindon goalkeeper David Lucas has been given permission to find a new club after expressing a desire to return north.

The 33-year-old Preston-born goalkeeper moved to the County Ground in the summer of 2009 and has made 71 appearances for Town. But he has expressed a desire to return north for family reasons and will not be part of the pre-season trip to Italy. "I've really enjoyed my time at Swindon and met some fantastic people, but my wife and kids want to move closer to home so I'm going to try and find a club back up north," Lucas told the club's official website. "Last season I didn't play as many games as I would have liked, for a number of reasons, so maybe it's time for a fresh start. "I've got a few options up north and I'll see what happens, but hopefully I can get something sorted ahead of the new season."
