Richards glad to be on mend

Marc Richards suffered no ill-effects after making his comeback from injury during Port Vale's defeat at AFC Wimbledon.

The striker was a 62nd-minute substitute on Saturday, making his first appearance since sustaining an ankle injury against Crawley on the opening day of the season. Manager Micky Adams admitted that injuries elsewhere had forced him to recall Richards earlier than he had planned but revealed that the 29-year-old had suffered no reaction. "We had no Doug Loft, Sean Rigg, Lee Collins and Lewis Haldane, so we were really forced into putting Marc Richards on," Adams told the club's official website. "In an ideal world we would have liked him to have had some reserve-team football before we put him on. "He is a bit rusty, I think everyone can see that. He needs more game time now and more training, but certainly there is no reaction to the work he did at the weekend."
