Gurrieri nears new deal

Argentinian midfielder Andres Gurrieri is close to agreeing a new contract at League Two outfit Burton Albion.

Gurrieri joined Albion on a three-month deal at the end of October after impressing in a handful of reserve-team and friendly matches, but has had to wait patiently for his chance in the first team. He made his debut in the FA Cup first-round defeat at Oldham in November and was handed his second start in the 2-1 league defeat at Plymouth on Saturday - when he conceded the 89th-minute penalty that gave the hosts victory. The 22-year-old is keen to put that behind him and agree to extend his stay at the Pirelli Stadium. "It's a difficult moment now but I'm happy to stay here, it's a great club. I want a longer contract, the club want me, the gaffer wants me and we've been talking about a longer contract," Gurrieri told the Burton Mail. "It's close to happening, we are talking about that with my agent and the club."
