Scottish midfielder Jim Paterson has secured a new one-year contract with Bristol Rovers.

The 32-year-old made 17 appearances for Rovers after signing a short-term deal in January and scored his first goal for the club in April's 7-1 romp against Burton. "Everyone has seen a bit of what Jim is about now," manager Mark McGhee told the Pirates' official website. "I threw down the gauntlet to him when he got here and he has grasped it with both hands and endeared himself to the fans with his effort and style. "He has shown consistency and he gives me options down the left. He is delighted to have earnt this contract, but still believes there is more to come and that he has more to show us." Paterson moved from Dundee United to Motherwell in 2004 where he first joined up with McGhee. He subsequently turned out for Plymouth, Aberdeen and Shamrock Rovers.
