McGhee ready to wield the axe

Bristol Rovers boss Mark McGhee has warned his players that they will lose their places after a 1-0 defeat at Accrington.

A horrendous injury list has forced McGhee's hand when it comes to team selection and the Rovers manager believes some of the current regulars may never return to the side when his missing men return. "There are players who continue to disappoint and who have to do more," he told Rovers' official website. "My frustration at the result will manifest itself in change and when players who are injured come back into contention then players who are letting us down will not be playing. "Change, inevitably, means that some players may not have a future at the club. "That's not a dramatic statement because each summer there is a cull due to the fact that contracts come to an end and you get an opportunity to change. "I think the fans can accept losing and they know there will be days when you can lose a football match, but they want to see you doing that when you have given everything and working to give absolutely everything."
