Hartlepool boss Colin Cooper is stepping up his bid to sign a new striker in time for next weekend's game at York.
Cooper saw his side dominate possession in Saturday's home defeat to 10-man Southend, but concedes they lack a cutting edge. Pools, relegated in May, have yet to score in Sky Bet League Two having lost 3-0 at Rochdale on the opening day and Cooper is hopeful of adding a goalscorer to his squad. "I watched a game on Sunday, I'm watching two (on Monday) and we're making phone calls all the time," he told the Hartlepool Mail. "People still tell us they want to help us and hopefully on the back of that let's hope we can do something. "It can only help us, Tony Sweeney had a niggle on Friday and went off on Saturday then Andy Monkhouse wasn't available as his wife had a baby and he needed to spend some time with his family. "Take them two out and, all of a sudden, we have two boys in the squad. For me to be happy, to lose one or two we need back-up that we just don't have. "I want players who can come straight in if possible to make us stronger on the whole."
