Matt would welcome a start

Fleetwood striker Jamille Matt hopes to earn his first start of the season after opening his account in the 3-2 defeat to Burton.

Matt, who became the club's record signing when he joined from Kidderminster last January, has made three substitute appearances and has struggled to dislodge David Ball as the spearhead of the Cod Army's attack. However, he impressed in his latest outing as Graham Alexander's side almost claimed a point despite trailing by three goals at the interval. "Even if you're a substitute you have to keep on fighting for a place in the team and then rewards will come," Matt told Fleetwood's official website. "We're all fighting for a place in the team and the manager knows he can call upon us if he needs to make a change. "It's a squad game and there will be times when changes to the first team need to be made, so you have to be ready to take your opportunity." Ball made an electric start to the campaign with three goals in as many games but Matt hopes to use his colleague's purple patch as motivation. He added: "It's tough when you're competing with players like David Ball, who has done a great job up front in the opening games, but you have to keep pushing one another to do better."
