Hill angered by match referee

Rochdale boss Keith Hill was left seething with the referee Tony Harrington's performance in the 4-0 rout at the hands of Scunthorpe.

The Iron took the lead against the run of play five minutes before the break when Niall Canavan poked home from close range. But after the interval Rochdale's comeback attempts were hindered when skipper Lancashire was dismissed for a second bookable offence and Jack O'Connell was shown a red card after he hauled down Jimmy Spencer, who was clean through on goal. Sam Winnall converted the spot-kick before the Iron made the most of their numerical advantage in the closing stages with Spencer netting from close range and David Syers completing the scoring. Hill insisted the scoreline was not a fair reflection on his side's performance, citing the referee's display as the main factor behind the result. "The first half was a really good performance from us and even though we came in 1-0 down it wasn't a problem," he said. "What happened in the second half was the bigger problem - we were not given an opportunity to show what we can do and that's no fault of the players. "We have not been thrashed at home, we have been denied an opportunity. "I won't answer questions about the referee - ask the Referees Association to explain themselves. It's no good asking me, you should be given the opportunity to interview referees so that we can get some truths and reflection on why they are making the decisions they are. "I will be asking to speak to the referee because I have a list as long as my arm with respect to decisions he could and should have made."
