Northampton Town have signed free agent Gregor Robertson on a deal until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old defender has been without a club since leaving Crewe in January. Robertson came through the ranks at Hearts before moving to Nottingham Forest. He then went on to represent Rotherham and Chesterfield ahead of joining the Railwaymen in 2012. Cobblers boss Chris Wilder told the club's website: "We felt that bringing Gregor in will give us added experience and quality going forward. "He's an experienced player who covers left-back and left centre-half." Wilder also confirmed that the club would not be looking to extend Sean McGinty's loan deal. The defender will return to Sheffield United after Saturday's clash with Plymouth.
