James Beattie has reaffirmed his commitment to Accrington amid speculation Oxford want him for their vacant managerial post.
The ex-England striker, 35, is in his first position in management and, after a rough start which saw Stanley fail to win a league game until October 22, Beattie has guided the club away from the League Two relegation zone. That success has seen him linked with the job at the Kassam Stadium, which is available following Chris Wilder's surprising decision to leave for Northampton at the end of last month. However, Beattie admits he has spoken to his players to refute suggestions he will be leaving the Store First Stadium. "There's been no official approach from anybody," he said. "I've spoken to the boys - they were talking and were a bit worried that I was going somewhere, but I've explained the situation. My commitment is to them and it has been from day one." Captain Luke Joyce said the squad were keen for Beattie to continue leading them. He added: "We're desperate for him to stay and it seems he's desperate to stay himself. If the gaffer's getting linked to places, it can only mean we're doing well."
