Southend United midfielder Kevan Hurst has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal at Roots Hall.

The 28-year-old, who arrived at Roots Hall on a free transfer from Walsall in June 2012, has committed himself to the Shrimpers until the summer of 2016. The former Scunthorpe and Carlisle midfielder is keen to help Phil Brown's side win promotion to Sky Bet League One. "The club is only going to keep moving forwards under the gaffer, he's been absolutely terrific since he came to the club," Hurst told the club's official website. "I've said all along that I wanted to remain with Southend United and I'm over the moon now that it has all been agreed. "Having been here nearly two years, I've really settled in the area, and I've always had a really good relationship with the fans. "I want to help this club progress and get into League One. That's what everyone here wants and I believe it's possible."
