Rob Green - Queens Park Rangers
QPR have moved ominously into the Championship's top two, with Harry Redknapp's side starting to look every inch the promotion contenders they were billed as before a ball was kicked. QPR boast the best defensive record in the Football League - having conceded just twice in six outings - and have now collected four successive clean sheets. England international Green formed part of a watertight back four that helped to shut out Birmingham in a 1-0 win on Saturday.
Shaun Williams - MK Dons
There are still five sides in League One yet to taste defeat this season, and MK Dons form part of that select group. Karl Robinson will be hoping to have them knocking on the promotion door again this season, and a bright opening bodes well. The Dons breezed past rock-bottom Notts County in their latest outing, with Irish enforcer Williams helping them to a 3-1 success as he curled home a spectacular 25-yard free-kick shortly before half-time.
Luke Chambers - Ipswich Town
Ipswich broke out of a three-match winless run on Saturday as they overcame struggling Middlesbrough 3-1. David McGoldrick stole the headlines with a deadly double, but Chambers also deserves recognition for the part he played in the collection of three welcome points. The centre-half met a pinpoint cross from Aaron Cresswell shortly before the hour mark to put Ipswich 2-1 in front, and they never looked back.
Sam Hird - Chesterfield
There is no sign of the Chesterfield juggernaut being derailed, with a sixth win in seven wrapped up with the minimum of fuss by the Spireites. AFC Wimbledon became the latest side to feel the full force of the country's leading point scorers, as they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat. Hird helped Chesterfield to a fifth clean sheet of the season, and himself to a first goal of the campaign as he nodded in a Gary Roberts delivery eight minutes into the second half.
Matty Robson - Carlisle United
Carlisle collected their first victory of the season at the seventh time of asking on Saturday, with Sheffield United edged out at Brunton Park. The Cumbrians were able to make the most of the troubles being endured by the Blades as they prevailed 1-0 on home soil. Robson proved to be the hero of the hour, with a full-back renowned for his prowess in the final third of the field nodding home the only goal of the game early in the second period.
Craig Westcarr - Walsall
Crewe were able to contain Walsall for 66 minutes over the weekend, but once the deadlock was broken they crumbled badly. Westcarr was the man to finally pick the lock, with his deflected effort putting the Saddlers on their way to a 3-0 win. He was to grab his and Walsall's second just three minutes later, dusting himself down after being clumsily felled inside the box by Gregor Robertson to calmly stroke home from the penalty spot.
Sam Clucas - Mansfield Town
Mansfield have made an impressive start to life back in the Football League, taking 12 points from their opening seven games. They added three to their tally on Saturday as they overcame struggling York on the road. Clucas provided the spark for the Stags, hauling them level from the penalty spot on 21 minutes. He then played a leading role in their winner, with his long-range drive deflecting into the net off team-mate Oliver Palmer.
Craig Bryson - Derby County
After 350 appearances spread over 10 years, Bryson grabbed his first senior hat-trick on Saturday as Derby put in a five-star showing against Millwall. Bryson's treble, which saw him net on the stroke of half-time and twice more after the interval, also saw him become the first Derby player to claim a matchball in league competition since Paul Simpson in April 1996. Not a bad afternoon's work from the Scotland international.
Dave Mooney - Leyton Orient
Few tipped Leyton Orient to be among the League One frontrunners over the summer, but they currently lead the way in the third tier and will be starting to believe that a promotion push is very much on the cards. Orient boast the only 100 per cent record in England, having taken maximum points from six games so far. Port Vale were their latest victims, with two first-half efforts from the in-form Mooney helping them to a thrilling 3-2 success.
David Nardiello - Rotherham United
The second five-goal thriller to figure in this run down was recorded by Rotherham as they maintained their fine start to the season with a 3-2 victory over Oldham. Nardiello did most of the damage for the Millers, with his experience proving key on an afternoon of high drama. He opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 21 minutes and was in the right place at the right time to crash home a dramatic winner in the final 60 seconds of the 90.
Nahki Wells - Bradford City
There will have been a few people questioning whether Wells could handle the step up into League One following his exploits in the fourth tier, but any doubts have been knocked firmly on the head. The prolific Bermudan is in the form of his life right now, with another brace in a 2-2 draw with Colchester on Saturday taking him on to nine goals for the season from just eight outings in all competitions. He has netted in seven different games, underlining his importance to the Bantams cause.
