Albert Adomah's sensational disallowed goal
PETER SAYS: It’s unfortunate we’re talking about a refereeing decision rather than a thing of beauty which was a fantastic individual goal. The athleticism and ingenuity to think of doing this was brilliant. Stephen Warnock’s bravery saved Leeds. Stephen throws himself with a lateral movements, downwards rather than up, there’s no contact made. The key fact is that in the referee’s opinion he has endangered an opponent. Speaking to a few people, the powers that be on the football grapevine, the referee has admitted at a later date that he got it wrong.
The form of Kenwyne Jones and Britt Assombalonga
PETER SAYS: I spoke to Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer at the first game and he giving Jones a lot of credit. He’s worked hard, a lot of spinning sessions! I liken him in his build to a decathlete, he’s got a fantastic spring, great strength and we all know of his prowess in the air. I likened Assombalonga a few seasons ago to a young Jermain Defoe. I liked the look of him when he was at Watford, and on loan to Southend, and I knew he’d guarantee goals at Peterborough. He’s got his £5.5m moved and he will threaten teams in behind. He has a great knack of coming short and leaving a space behind.
Peterborough replacing their forward-line
PETER SAYS: I know Darren Ferguson has worked astutely in the centre-forward market over recent years. Kyle Vassel was pulled from relative obscurity, at Bishop's Stortford he scored bag-fulls of goals. He looks a genuine threat, he’s very clever with his movement and very willing. These guys are willing runners because they keep that non-league mentality. It doesn’t give centre-halves a second. Peteborough have got to replace 52 goals – Lee Tomlin has gone, Tommy Rowe has gone and 33-goal Assombalonga has gone. The way they’ve started is a great credit to the team. They’ve got to stop that yo-yo and get back to the Championship and consolidate.
Are Pompey going to reverse their decline this season?
PETER SAYS: They’re one of the favourites for me. When I look at the quality of the squad, I look at signings from an individual point of view. Paul Robinson from Millwall is a real leader of a centre-half. The affect Andy Awford has had in brilliant. And, in Craig Westcarr, they’ve got someone who potentially will score bags full of goals. They’ve probably got the best individual in the division in the winger Jed Wallace. Things are rosy in the garden.
