Jeff Stelling calls on Hartlepool boss Dave Jones to go after they slipped closer to relegation, losing 2-0 at home to Barnet on Saturday

Jeff Stelling called on Hartlepool boss Dave Jones to resign as his side slipped closer to relegation from League Two with a 2-0 defeat at home to Barnet on Saturday.

A lacklustre performance from Jeff's beloved Pools enabled Barnet to seal just a second win in 13 games.

The Bees went ahead in the 66th minute when John Akinde fired a powerful angled drive past goalkeeper Joe Fryer before Simeon Akinola made it two after 71 minutes to condemn the hosts to a fifth defeat from their last seven league outings.

The damaging result for Hartlepool came just five days after Jeff expressed frustrations at his club losing 2-1 to beleaguered Leyton Orient, who on Saturday dropped out of the football league for the first time in their 112-year-history with a 3-0 defeat to Crewe.

And as updates of Hartlepool's performance reached the Soccer Saturday studio, the host urged Jones to resign from his post after just three months in charge of a team which now languished second-bottom in the league table.

Stelling said: "Dave Jones, for the good of the club, just go now. You've got 13 points from 51. This is not your level of football."

Jeff went on to appeal to the club's board and stated he would resign from his post as president if it resulted in the current boss' departure.

"Pam Duxbury, the chairman, Gary Coxall. If he won't walk, sack him," Jeff continued.

"If it means me resigning as president, I do so happily. Do it now. Do it today."
