Bristol Rovers manager Ian Atkins has opened talks with midfielder Aaron Lescott.Bristol Rovers manager Ian Atkins has opened talks with midfielder Aaron Lescott regarding a new contract.
The former Aston Villa, Sheffield Wednesday and Stockport County player has proven to be a versatile member of the Memorial Stadium squad this season.
The 26-year-old's current deal expires at the season's end and the West Country outfit are keen to keep him at the club for the following campaign.
"We are talking to Aaron to try to get something sorted out for next season," Atkins told the Bristol Evening Post.
"He has done alright since he came here, although I still think we can get better out of him.
"He is a useful player to have because he gives you options and hopefully he and the club can agree something."
Meanwhile, former Birmingham City defender Jon Bass is on trial with The Pirates, with a view to sign a deal with the club.
The 28-year-old is looking to get back into English football after spending time with Malaysian club Pahang FA following his release from League One club Hartlepool United over a year ago.
Atkins added that he will look to sign Bass before the season's end, should players move on from Rovers.
"If people go out of the club before the end of the campaign, we may be able to do something with a view to next season," Atkins told the club's official website.
