League Two round-up

Hartlepool climbed top with victory over Macclesfield, as Walsall lost at Stockport.

Hartlepool climbed top of League Two with a 3-2 victory over Macclesfield, as Walsall lost 1-0 at Stockport.

Walsall led the table at the start of the evening despite having lost their last two games, but their struggles continued at Edgeley Park as Anthony Elding's 52nd minute strike secured the points for play-off chasers Stockport.

Hartlepool extended their unbeaten run to 16 games to move to the summit, but they were made to battle by Macclesfield.

James Brown (pictured) fired Hartlepool ahead after 26 minutes and Richie Barker grabbed a second on the hour mark, but Jordan Hadfield (65) and Matthew Tipton (70) drew Macclesfield level.

However, Hartlepool found a winner two minutes from time when David Morley scored an own goal.

Lincoln beat Walsall last Friday but could not maintain their good form as they slipped to a surprise 4-1 defeat at home to Hereford.

Alan Connell gave The Bulls a lead after just three minutes and Steve Guinan doubled their advantage in the 36th minute.

Guinan went on to net a hat-trick with further strikes after 46 and 54 minutes, before Spencer Weir Daley's finish two minutes later saved Lincoln from total embarrassment.

Swindon missed the chance to go third as an early Oliver Allen goal at Underhill gave Barnet a narrow 1-0 victory.

Play-off hopefuls Milton Keynes Dons were held to a 1-1 draw by Mansfield, as Nathan Arnold's stoppage time strike cancelled out Scott Taylor's earlier effort (50) and rescued a point for The Stags.

None of the bottom three won, but Boston moved out of the relegation zone as Wrexham and Torquay both lost.

Glenn Murray (19) set Rochdale on course for victory against Torquay at Spotland, and Adam Le Fondre's injury time penalty clinched a 2-0 win.

Wrexham's slide continued with a 2-1 defeat at Grimsby, although The Dragons did take the lead after 28 minutes through Lee McEvily.

Paul Bolland equalised on the stroke of half-time and Ciaran Toner popped up in the final minute of the game to take Grimsby up to mid-table.

Nathan Joynes gave Boston the lead against Peterborough in the 61st minute, but Steve Evans' side had to settle for a 1-1 draw as George Boyd levelled with 15 minutes remaining.

Shrewsbury beat Notts County 2-0 courtesy of goals from Derek Asamoah (32) and Leo Fortune-West (45).

Darlington raced into a 2-0 lead against Accrington thanks to Tommy Wright (21) and Gregg Blundell (29), and they held on for a 2-1 victory after Paul Mullin pulled a goal back for Stanley.
