League Two round-up

Hartlepool and Walsall gained promotion and Torquay have been relegated.

Hartlepool and Walsall gained promotion and Torquay were relegated on a decisive Saturday in League Two.

MK Dons' win over Darlington means third-placed Swindon, late victors over Bury, will have to wait to join the promotion party.

Richie Barker's 81st minute winner for Hartlepool in the leaders' 1-0 win at Wycombe sparked jubilant celebrations at Adams Park.

Walsall left it even later to secure their elevation. Trevor Benjamin struck six minutes from time in The Saddlers' 2-1 win at Notts County after Lawrie Dudfield (41) had cancelled out Kevin Harper's opener (17).

Third-placed Swindon were also late winners, 1-0 at Bury, but Lucas Jutkiewicz's 85th minute goal could not secure his team's promotion after MK Dons' Clive Platt (57) kept his team in sight of The Robins with a 1-0 win over Darlington.

At the bottom, Torquay's draw against Peterborough combined with Wrexham's 3-0 win at Lincoln means The Gulls have lost their League status.

Simon Spender (18), Scott Kerr's own goal (29) and Lee McEvilly (52) secured Wrexham's surprise win at Sincil Bank.

Bottom club Torquay have finally been cut adrift after only managing a 1-1 draw at home to Peterborough. Kevin Hill gave The Gulls the lead in the 46th minute but his team were pegged back by Craig Mackail-Smith's penalty (71).

Boston look most likely to join Torquay in the Conference next season after slipping to a 3-0 defeat at Hereford for whom Steve Guinan (56), Andrew Williams (71) and Alan Connell (90) were all on target.

Accrington and Macclesfield are unlikely to figure in the relegation shake up after convincing wins over Grimsby and Stockport respectively.

Stanley beat 10-man Grimsby 4-1, with the hosts' opener coming from Paul Mullin (32) before Tom Newey equalised four minutes from half-time.

The game's turning point came three minutes later when Gary Croft was dismissed for deliberate handball inside the area and Andy Todd converted the resultant penalty.

Sean Doherty (55) and Peter Cavanagh (88) confirmed Stanley's second-half superiority.

Paul Ince's Macclesfield continue to move in the right direction after goals from John Murphy (19) and John Miles (69) gave his team a 2-0 win over Stockport.

10-man Bristol Rovers' play-off hopes took a blow after a 1-1 draw at Barnet. Richard Walker gave Rovers the lead in the 12th minute but Jason Puncheon (46) levelled before Aaron Lescott received his marching orders for the visitors.

Louis Dodds struck in the 90th minute for Rochdale in the team's 2-1 win at Mansfield. Glenn Murray (9) and Jon-Olav Hjelde (47) had earlier exchanged strikes.
