Hartlepool United's charge to the League Two title was checked after a 1-1 draw at home to Notts County.
Both teams finished the match at Victoria Park with 10 men, while The Magpies missed the chance to claim all three points after fluffing a second-half penalty.
Pools, who have already clinched promotion, are looking to pip Walsall to the title and took the lead after just three minutes when James Brown's shot gave Kevin Pilkington no chance.
But the visitors were level at the end of the first half when the home defence backed off and Andy Parkinson accepted the invitation to equalise.
Just past the hour mark and Pools were reduced to 10 men when Ben Clark (pictured) was sent off for hauling down Lawrie Dudfield, but Austin McCann saw his penalty saved by Dimitrios Konstantopoulos.
A second red card was shown three minutes from time when The Magpies' Stephen Hunt was dismissed for two bookable offences.
The result means Pools could lose top spot to Walsall on Saturday, while The Magpies are three points adrift of the play-offs.
