Injury has prevented Middlesbrough youngster Jonathan Franks joining Bournemouth on loan.

Boro youngster suffers another injury blow

Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray has revealed that a training-ground injury for Jonathan Franks has scuppered a proposed loan move to Bournemouth. Franks had returned to action only last month after recovering from a back operation. But the 20-year-old forward has suffered another blow by turning an ankle in training on Sunday. The ex-England youth international is set to undergo scans to determine the extent of the injury, which has come just as he was considering an approach from League One promotion chasers Bournemouth. "They asked the question and I had a conversation with him about it," Mowbray told the club's official website. "He was in the squad for Saturday so nothing was going to be decided until today (Monday).

"But he's got injured in a training session and he's gone for a scan, so is he going to Bournemouth? No." Franks was left out of the matchday 18 for Saturday's home defeat by Championship leaders QPR. Since returning off the bench at home to Norwich last month, he has made four appearances this season.
