Brown signs on for Tynesiders

James Brown has agreed a switch to non-league Gateshead after being released by Hartlepool.

The striker was one of seven players last month to be told they will not be offered a new deal at Victoria Park, bringing an end to the 25-year-old's seven-year spell at the club for whom he made almost 200 appearances. But Brown has now sealed a move to the Tynesiders and will look to help his new employers challenge for promotion to the Football League next season. Brown, hampered by injury during his time with Pools, has penned a one-year deal with the Blue Square Bet Premier outfit. He told Gateshead's official website: "This was the move I was after from the moment I was released by Hartlepool."
