Cooper left scratching his head

Hartlepool manager Neale Cooper was once again furious with his side's defending after a 3-1 defeat at strugglers Colchester.

Two goals from U's debutant Jabo Ibehre and Gavin Massey's fine finish helped the home side come from behind to win their first game of the season following Craig Lynch's early opener for the visitors. Cooper said: "Individual errors really cost us and I thought to myself 'what am I watching here?' We gifted them their goals and that's killing us. "They crucified us with the balls through the middle. A player made a decision on the pitch to pull somebody back, which we didn't want to happen. That led to them scoring their first goal and it came straight through the middle. "Their second goal was something that you can't work on in training, because it was yet another individual error. That kind of defending is killing us and every attack they had was a worry. "I thought that Scott Flinders was man of the match and it could have been more if it wasn't for him."
