Kidderminster Harriers have signed Walsall striker Gary Birch on a free transfer.Kidderminster Harriers have beaten off the attention of a number of other clubs to land the signature of Walsall striker Gary Birch.
Birch joins The Harriers on a free transfer and has signed a contract until the end of the season, despite receiving interest from League Two rivals Grimsby Town.
Walsall have managed to negotiate a substantial sell-on clause should Birch be sold on by The Harriers.
Kidderminster will be looking to Birch for some much-needed firepower to lift them off the bottom of League Two where they are currently one point behind fellow strugglers, Cambridge United.
The Harriers had a much-needed win at the weekend over resurgent Rochdale, but will need to continue such form over the festive and New Year period to be able to breathe more easily. There is a lot of work to be done.
Harriers boss Stuart Watkiss was delighted to clinch the deal and told Kidderminster's official website: "I've kept an eye on Gary ever since I first saw him as a 16-year-old in Walsall's youth side. Gary is a good footballer and I believe he has goals in him, something we desperately need at the moment.
"Gary's been brought up the right way under Mick Halsall at Walsall and also with the managers he's played under."
Birch is set to make his debut in the local derby against Cheltenham Town at the weekend and could be accompanied by another new signing.
The path between Walsall and Kidderminster is well-trodden with Birch joining other ex-Saddlers Dean Keates, Pedro Matias and Tom Bennett at Aggborough.
