Mansfield and Walsall failed to produce a goal as it finished 0-0 at the One Call Stadium.
The Saddlers had more of the ball and Stags summer signing Sascha Studer was the busier of the two goalkeepers but it was a game of few chances. Swiss Under-21 international Studer produced solid saves to deny James Baxendale, Danny Webber and Ashley Grimes, while at the other end Liam Hearn stung the palms of Richard O'Donnell. Mansfield had the bonus of seeing Sam Clucas return from injury to complete the whole of the second half. However, defender Ritchie Sutton limped off as the hour approached and Stags boss Paul Cox will wait anxiously for news of what his injury is.
