Goalkeeper Neil Etheridge has signed a short-term deal at League One club Oldham Athletic.

The Latics have been on the look-out for a new stopper following the news back-up keeper Joel Coleman had sustained a knee injury which is likely to keep him sidelined for the foreseeable future. Etheridge, 24, was a free agent following his release from Fulham over the summer and he spent two injury-hit spells with Crewe in Oldham's division last season. The club's new signing has been training with Lee Johnson's side this week and appeared in their behind-closed-doors friendly against Bury. "It is a good signing for us," Johnson told the club's official website. "He has a decent reputation in football and he's a good goalkeeper that is lacking a bit of experience. "He comes in to push (Paul) Rachubka for the number-one spot." Etheridge will remain at SportsDirect.com Park until the end of December.
