The giant 26-year-old has suffered damage to the medial ligament in his knee, and has been advised to cease training for at least 10 days.
Parkin will then undergo a second scan, which the club hope will give him the all-clear to return to action.
However, there is a doubt that he has suffered more than a strain which could lead to at least two months of inactivity.
Despite the fears, Parkin is positive about making a swift return to action.
"It's just one of those things unfortunately," Parkin told the club's website. "I went in for a tackle and somehow managed to twist my knee. Having never had any major injuries before, it is frustrating to be sitting it out on the sidelines.
"It is sore but, with some rest, hopefully, I should be back quicker than most people expect. Usually your bodily reaction can tell you how bad it really is, but I am confident that I should be back sooner rather than later."
