Jim Gannon is hoping he can persuade Andy Nicholas to leave Swindon for Stockport.Jim Gannon is hoping he can persuade Andy Nicholas to leave Swindon Town for Stockport County.
Nicholas is out of contract at the County Ground and has been holding talks with Paul Sturrock about staying with the Robins.
Sturrock feels the defender should sample League One football with Swindon, but reports suggest the former Liverpool trainee wants to return north.
Stockport are prepared to offer Nicholas a contract and County boss Gannon is looking for a positive conclusion to the discussions.
"We have spoken at length with Andy's agent and we are still negotiating," Gannon told the Stockport Express.
"I am not too sure about his personal situation, but the indications are that he would relish the opportunity to come to Stockport.
"It is still a tricky one for us, but negotiations are ongoing with both the player and the County board on my behalf.
"He has been made an offer by Swindon, but it appears he wants a new challenge back up north.
"Everything about him says that he would be a good player for us and he is available on a free transfer."
