Southampton striker Ryan Seager has signed a new two-year contract and joined MK Dons on loan for the 2017-18 campaign.

The 21-year-old is now committed to the Premier League club until the summer of 2019 but will spend the first of those seasons in League One with Robbie Neilson's side.

Seager made a brief Premier League debut for Southampton in February 2015 against Swansea and also played in the FA Cup defeat against Crystal Palace.

He also had a spell on loan with Crewe but suffered a serious knee injury while with the Railwaymen and spent a long spell on the sidelines recovering from that setback.

"When I got the news I was going to sign a new contract, I was very happy," Seager said. "I've been here since I was about seven or eight years old so there was never any questions about me signing really.

"The medical staff were great with me last season in helping me get back fit and this has given me the confidence that they still believe in me and they know I can get back to what I was doing before.

"I went there a few days ago to meet him [Neilson] and we got on really well. The philosophy he wants to play with suits my style of play so I can't wait to start working with him."
