The 25-year-old former Luton Town stopper joked with Dons manager Stuart Murdoch prior to the club's match against Portsmouth at Fratton Park last Tuesday.
However, with Pompey ahead 2-1, Davis, like Enckleman, allowed a pass from his own player, this time it was Mark Williams, to slip under his foot and into the goal.
"I saw what happened to Peter Enckleman and had long conversations about it," explained Davis to the Sun.
"The boss and I joked that we were going to wear black armbands for him to keep the flag flying for the goalkeepers' union.
"It never entered my mind that I would be in the same position after our game. I lost my voice four minutes before the incident.
"The doctor told me it's traumatic laryngitis - maybe that played a part?
"Maybe something had got into my head subconsciously because I had been talking about Enckleman's mistake beforehand - I don't know.
"But for some reason I lost concentration for a split second and let the ball roll under my foot."
