Republic of Ireland international Connolly has been in superb form this term despite missing the opening three months of the season and the club are now trying to secure his services beyond the remaining 12 months left on his present deal.
The former Excelsior star, who was only been beaten by Svetoslav Todorov of champions Portsmouth as well as David Johnson of play-off outfit Nottingham Forest in the scoring charts, has formed a 48-goal partnership with strike partner Neil Shipperley.
A relieved Murdoch, though, says he was shocked no Premiership sides tried to bring in the 25-year-old during the January transfer window, as he looks to tie up the hot shot on a new deal with The Dons.
"I don't want to alert anyone about any of my players, but I was surprised when no-one came in for David," said the Crazy Gang boss.
"We've been aware that he has just one year left with us, and we've started talks to try and make sure he stays at Wimbledon."
