Tranmere Rovers have signed former Barnsley defender Antony Kay.
Tranmere Rovers have signed former Barnsley defender Antony Kay on a two-year deal. The 24-year-old was released by The Tykes in May after making almost 200 appearances for his boyhood club.
Kay had attracted interest from Championship clubs after making 31 league appearances last season, but has now opted to join Rovers in League One.
After bringing Kay to Prenton Park, manager Ronnie Moore enthused over the signing of The Tykes' former vice-captain.
"Antony is a quality defender who has great experience in the Championship," Moore told the club's official website.
"He's versatile and with the size of the squad we have it's vital to have a player like Antony.
"He's comfortable on the ball and a strong defender.
"I've tried my hardest to sign him this summer and I'm delighted we managed to get him to join Tranmere in the face of competition from numerous clubs."
