Hibs cool on Rodgers

Hibernian have ruled out a move for Shrewsbury Town striker Luke Rodgers.

Hibernian have ruled out a move for Shrewsbury Town striker Luke Rodgers.

The player's agent had claimed that Rodgers was a target for the SPL side and was waiting for the interest to be firmed up.

Scotland international Derek Riordan's future at Easter Road was believed to hold the key to any possible swoop for Rodgers.

But Hibs boss Tony Mowbray has downplayed talk of an offer for the 23-year-old, who is out of contract at Shrewsbury.

Mowbray has affirmed that he is not interested in signing the forward and has not even had the player scouted.

Rodgers will now have to wait to discover if interest from The Championship bears fruit, with Crewe Alexandra linked with the attacker.

Clubs in League One and League Two are also on his trail, with Shrewsbury entitled to compensation for Rodgers if he joins another English club.
