Shrewsbury's 4-1 win over Rushden put them deeper in relegation trouble.
Shrewsbury plunged Rushden & Diamonds into further relegation trouble with a 4-1 win at Gay Meadow.
Two goals from Mark Stallard ensured The Shrews recorded their best win of the season and left struggling Rushden still languishing in the League Two drop zone.
Stallard gave the home side the lead after just seven minutes when he volleyed in off a post from close range following Neil Ashton's free kick.
Gary Peters' men doubled their lead after 36 minutes when midfielder Jamie Tolley ended a superb run with a low drive from 25 yards which beat Scott Tynan for 2-0.
Diamonds pulled a goal back two minutes after the interval when Darren Caskey scored a 20-yard free kick to give the visitors some hope of digging themselves out of the drop zone.
However, Stallard put Shrewsbury 3-1 ahead ten minutes after the restart when he seized on Wayne Hatswell's mistake to restore his side's two-goal advantage.
Defender Sagi Burton added more misery on Rushden with a fourth nine minutes from time to leave the visitors still two points from safety and in real danger of slipping out of the League.
